Dimapur, January 29

Echoing a demand that has been heard for many years now, a local organization has asked the sleepy bureaucracy and government agencies of Nagaland to start acting resolutely against the increasingly alarming scourge that is the growing population of illegal immigrants in Nagaland.
This population is made up particularly of Bangladeshi nationals. The number of Bangladeshi immigrants and other non-Indians in the state continues to disturb the socio-economic fabric of the people of Nagaland.Survival Nagaland, a group formed against illegal immigrants, issued a press release on Thursday pointing out that the illegal immigrants are forging partnerships with none other than underground organizations in Nagaland. The group lamented that the illegal immigrants enjoy the patronage of none other than the various undergrounds elements in Nagaland.
The group lauded a recent dismantling of hutments along Signal Angami areas in Dimapur by residents; the hutments were built by an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant who sought the help of an underground cadre and started opening shops and even went to the extent of defying the notices issued by the landowner asking him to vacate.
The group said that the hutments were erected ‘over an agreement that he will vacate it whenever the landowner told him to vacate. Instead the IBI took into partnership of an underground cadre to back him up and started opening some shops and the deadline given to him to vacate it was not heeded.
“So together with the colony council and volunteers it was dismantled .This shows how bold and brave have these illegal aliens have become taking the patronage of our so called a “national workers. The Survival Nagaland also lauds the youths of Kohima who pushed back eight illegal immigrants back from Kohima in the wee hours who were travelling from Dimapur without any valid documents,” the group stated. The recent incidents clearly show that these Bangladeshi immigrants are taking chances to swarm over the lands of the Naga people while the “Nagas are sleeping.” However, the situation would remain so anymore, Survival Nagaland stated.
Money-loving
‘decoration’ police
The organization also criticized the lackluster Nagaland police, who the organization called “mere decorations” whose focus these days seem to be only to collect money.
“The police in the check-posts have become like mere decorations for collecting taxes only. Both the state government and the civil organizations have miserably failed to check the influx in our land in spite of knowing the danger about this issue poses,” the group stated.
The tribal Naga apex organizations ‘pretends to sleep’ over this matter even when the very existence of Nagaland’s indigenous inhabitants and their coming generations are being threatened by the influx of foreigners in the state. “It is by God’s grace and through the blessing of his wisdom the young generation has woke up from this menace,” the press release stated.
“Further the Survival Nagaland has cautioned all the Nagas about the Railway connectivity to Zubza as it would only mean more influx of illegal immigrants into the interior parts of Nagaland and the present scenario of IBIs presence should be enough to learn from it as being witnessed in Dimapur. It has said that the present Naga youths have become wise enough and taking every possible means to check the influx,” the statement added.
