Naga United Club Kohima and Barak Football Club Peren today remained unbeaten to find their semi-final berths of the ongoing Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) organized student martyrs’ memorial soccer tournament.
In a close contested first quarter final match, Naga United Club triumphed over Head Quarter Inspector General of Assam Rifles-North (HQ IGAR-N) by 2-1 applying silver goal rule as the teams were locked in 1-1 draw during the 90 minutes stipulated time of the match.It was Keyigumgwangbe Zeliang giving Naga United Club the first half lead in 28th minute and they continued to uphold the lead until the 72nd minute where Assam Rifles managed to return to the game with AS Benjamin finding the much needed equalizer and ending the 90 minutes stipulated time to end in 1-1 draw.
Subsequently, the silver goal rule was applied and Naga United midfielder Keneisedelie did not miss the opportunity of scoring the winning goal within the fifth minute of the first 15 minutes and place his team in the semi-final.
President of Angami Public Organisation, K. Neingunyü Sekhose was the patron of the match.
Playing the second quarter final match, Barak FC Peren comprehensively defeated Tiema-Khe Kidima by three goals to nil to enter into the semi-finals.
Taking control of the ball from the beginning, champions of recently concluded Classic Cup, Barak FC took the lead in the 13th minute through skipper Tingyek Konyak. Tepongmeren doubled the margin in 25th minute to lead the first half by 2 goals. In the breather half, Nyinthong Rengma tripled it confirming semi-final berth through a penalty kick conversion in 47th minute. Tiema-Khe Kidima tried their best to find atleast an equalizer but failed to surpass into the rival nets through the game.
President of Ao Senden Dr. Sengyu Yaden witnessed the second match as patron.
Both the losing quarter finalist walked away with match allowance of Rs. 10,000 each.
