Naga Students’ Federation tells government to implement ILP in Dimapur at the earliest

Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has asked the Nagaland government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime in the entire state at the earliest.

In a representation addressed to the chief minister, the federation stated that over the decades, it has been urging the state government for effective implementation of the Inner Line Permit and the BEFR 1873 in true letter and spirit to cover the entire state. Copies of the representation were made available to the local newspapers on Saturday.

“It may be mentioned that the NSF had submitted its long standing demand on the matter to the State ILP Committee. The NSF also lauds the statement of the government in assuring the people to deliver its commitment to the Naga people at a time when the Naga people were disturbed by the PIL petition filed by one outsider (sic) Ashwani Kumar Upadhyay in the Supreme Court, solely to stall the implementation of ILP in the entire state, projecting the Naga people in bad light to the outside world.

“To safeguard the Naga ethnicity as an entity of the land, the coverage of the ILP area to the entire state is of paramount importance, thus, the reassurance from the state government is much appreciated,” read the statement.

However, the NSF stated, it would like to know why the state government has been delaying in expanding the ILP coverage to Dimapur “even when the Assembly had resolved to implement the ILP way back in February.

“Subsequently, the official committee constituted by the state government for implementation of the ILP has already submitted the same to the Government. The implementation of ILP to the entire state is a long-pending demand of the past NSF leaders in light of the approaching danger.

“Therefore, the NSF urges your authority to implement the ILP in the entire state of Nagaland immediately in the larger interest of the Naga people. The NSF would no more be able to withstand the delaying tactics, which the enemies (sic) of Nagas are taking advantage of,” it stated
