- DIMAPUR — The Naga Students' Federation (NSF)
has demanded the immediate revocation of a recent Cabinet decision approving
the regularisation of "151 assistant professors" serving on fixed pay under the
department of Higher Education.
- In a letter addressed to the chief secretary, the NSF
condemned the decision, citing concerns over meritocracy, transparency, and
fairness.
- According to the federation, the Cabinet decision taken on
September 11, 2024, disregards previous representations and public statements
made by the NSF opposing such “arbitrary and unjustified regularisation.”
- “Why has the department still not revoked the order, despite
the demand being placed forth by the NSF, the most recent communiqué having
been conveyed on 8th April 2025 during the meeting with the department
concerned?
- It must be stressed that the NSF’s opposition to this form
of absorption is not new. We have consistently voiced our concerns over the
years, clearly stating that such backdoor regularisation processes are detrimental
to the aspirations of educated Naga youths and erode public trust in the
system,” it stated.
- The NSF further emphasised that the department of Higher
Education, a crucial arm of the state government, has failed to uphold its
objectives under current leadership by prioritising this regularisation.
- “By pushing for this regularisation, the department has not
only violated the principles of fair recruitment but has also tarnished the
credibility of the department. The NSF views this action as vested interest,
lacking transparency, and grossly unfair to aspiring candidates.
- “Therefore, in the interest of justice and fairness, the
Naga Students’ Federation demands the immediate revocation of the said Cabinet
decision and further urges the government of Nagaland to requisition all
sanctioned posts to the Nagaland Public Service Commission immediately,” the
letter read.
- It warned that
failure to act upon the demand will compel the federation to initiate
democratic measures to safeguard the interests of the student community and
aspiring candidates.
