Naga political leaders asked to revisit history

Dimapur, Nov. 5 (EMN): As the talks on Naga political issue drew closure towards a final settlement, the Eastern Konyak community living in the international boundary has urged Naga political leaders to revisit its history when the whole of Eastern Nagaland area was made the ‘Cradle of Naga sovereignty.’

A press statement issued by the general secretary of Eastern Konyak Union (Myanmar), K Akham Honwang, on Thursday stated that Eastern Nagas have provide shelter to the Naga national workers without any condition since 1950s. It called upon the Naga political leaders not to forgot the past history to the time when people from Eastern Nagaland received them and provided with whatever they have and also saved them from the adversary by hiding them in their fields for the noble Naga national cause under the banner of ‘Nagaland for Christ’.

It also stated that they have sincerely shouldered the responsibility basing on the commitment and promise to work ‘without differentiation, black or white, east or west and south or north’ that Nagas will be under one umbrella of ‘Nagaland for Christ’.

It, therefore, urged upon the Naga political leaders to include the people from Eastern Nagaland in the event of any political settlement and not limited to certain region or area. It also urged the leaders not to keep their problem unsolved and extend their condition for later talks.

The union also pointed stated that ‘for the sheer Naga national cause, they were deprived of all facilities while their counterparts in other border areas have been bestowed with various development activities for the uplift of the people.’

Stating that the commitment and promise is still fresh in the minds of the people, the union urged the national leaders to work for full independence of all the Nagas.
