Dimapur, Oct. 7 (EMN): Department of Horticulture, in collaboration with Chansu Organic Kiwi Producer Company Limited from Pfutsero in Phek district, has sent first consignment of Naga organic kiwi weighing 600 kg through Air cargo from Dimapur to Delhi on October 7.
Chansu is a generic name comprising 500 kiwi farmers of Chakhasang, Angami and Sumi forming an organic kiwi producer company limited, said Meyasashi, deputy director of Horticulture and marketing in-charge.
It stated that the project was implemented under MOVCD NER in three districts of Kohima, Phek and Zunheboto. It added that the expected production of kiwi from the company during the current harvesting season (Oct-Dec) was about 300 metric tonnes.
Report stated that during September 2021, series of hand holding training were imparted to the farmers on harvesting, sorting, grading and packaging of kiwi for sending the produce to the national markets.
It informed that elaborate arrangements have been made for linking Nagaland kiwi to national markets. It added that A and B grade kiwi from three districts would be aggregated at Nagaland State Agriculture Marketing Board Complex at 4th Mile in Dimapur and kept in cold storage. It would be transported by refrigerated vehicle to Kolkata, Delhi and Bengaluru.
Report further stated that three companies of kiwi buyers have been engaged to market Nagaland Kiwi namely Big Basket for Kolkata and Bengaluru, Desai Agri Foods Sonepat and Suri Agro Fresh for New Sabzi Mandi, Azadpur, Delhi.
