Dimapur, Feb. 16 (EMN): Naga National Council (NNC) has sharply responded to a news report on the alleged removal of its president, Gen. (Retd) Thinoselie M Keyho, which appeared in some local dailies on February 15.

In a joint press statement, NNC vice president Thüpuswüyi S Keyho, president of NNC Angami regional council Khriekhotuo, and president of NNC Chakhesang regional council Nüveta Rhakho, stated that the ‘so called’ removal resolution of the said joint meeting of the NNC and FGN workers and notification thereof could never be honoured nor recognised but simply a matter of shame on those people who masterminded it which is a regretted blot to the image and prestige of the nation.

“The NNC is the only political institution of the Nagas. It is not a political group. Most importantly, it is not the property of a few national workers or vested individuals whosoever they may be. The NNC belongs to the Naga people,” the statement said.

It stated that NNC has its own convention of functioning, where the Central Executive Council (CEC) is the main body which controls the political and working policy of the NNC. It added that the power to elect or remove any executive official rests with the CEC.

To substantiate its claim, the release stated that NNC president, Gen. (Retd) Thinoselie M Keyho was elected on May 11, 2016, during the NNC general session through the CEC in Yorüba village. It added that his service in the office would depend on the completion of his tenure or impeachment.

“To oppose or support any authority is the discretion of any individual, but nowhere is there a provision in the Yehzabo of Nagaland or conventional practice of our nation for a joint meeting of so called NNC and FGN workers to dictate the NNC nor to remove or elect NNC president or any other executive official from powers or office,” the statement questioned. It said a true national worker cannot be above the Yehzabo or the conventional practice of the people.

Besides, it stated that NNC is not a member in the 7 NNPGs talking with the GOI for solution within Indian constitution. On the other hand, it has accused the NNPGs of beating around the bush by claiming and giving out statements to confuse the people.

It has asked the people to discern what is true and what is false, which is right and which is wrong and most importantly whether Nagas upholding the Plebiscite of May 16, 1951 are Naga national workers or a militant outfit. It has also accused the 7 NNPGs of working relentlessly and ready to accept a surrendered solution.

“Withdrawal of support to the NNC president by those elements is a welcome move because even if they do not do so, they are bound to be expelled from the NNC if they accept a surrendered solution within the Indian constitution,” the statement added.

It further reaffirmed that NNC would never compromise the popular plebiscite of May 16, 1951 and sovereignty of the nation for a surrendered solution under Indian constitution at any time.
