The Naga Musicians Collective (NMC) in partnership with Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland will be organising a Tribute Concert under the theme, “Come Together” in loving memory of those departed musicians on Oct. 25 and the 26th at the Heritage, Old DC Bungalow in Kohima from 5 pm onwards.
The concert is being organised to pay respect and homage in loving memory of departed musician friends who were associated with various music genres from the 1970’s to the 1990’s .
Through the tribute, the group NMC will also be officially launched.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Oct. 14 at Hotel Japfu, Andrew Ngully, the president of NMC gave a brief history on the formation of the group. He said NMC is a registered society which was formed by a group of like-minded musicians and music lovers .
He stated that NMC with the passion of all genres of music aims to foster the music culture in the state while it also endeavours to organise music festivals, promote variety of music genres and uplift the talented and upcoming musicians of Nagaland .
NMC will also be undertaking its objective of constituting an annual award for individual artists and bands in recognition of their achievements and proficiencies in various music fields and further the group also intend to publish magazines and journals on music in Nagaland.
Vipopal Kintso, advisor of NMC and convenor of the tribute concert briefed the media as to how the society with much enthusiasm and zeal decided to come together in a ‘significant and stronger way’ to organise the memorial gig for those promising musicians who passed away paving the way for the upcoming musicians. He lamented that the society could not give those yester musicians the opportunity to really excel and make a living out of music .
The convenor, however, said that they would like to honour the departed musicians for bringing the music thus far.
He mentioned that to show a solidarity, many senior musicians and bands of yesteryears will be covering around 50 songs during the two nights of the tribute concert.
Pfuche Koza said few selected photos and data of the departed musicians would also be projected during the concert.
Vilone Sakhrie said the theme of the concert, “Come Together,” is a call for all the music lovers while the logo of NMC is derived from a Christian song, “Red and Yellow, Black and White” signifying indiscrimination towards anybody whether rich or poor, old or young , etc.
The gallery ticket of the concert is priced at INR 200 /- while donor (admit 2) is fixed at INR 2000/- which are made available at Symphony School of Music, Unitex, Dream Cafe , Popular Bakery, Kiwi Store, Seluoba Bakery, Sports Inventory and Music Garage in and around Kohima.
