Naga Mothers’ Association urges Nagaland government to challenge SC ruling on Oting massacre
DIMAPUR — The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has urged Nagaland government to file a review petition challenging the Supreme Court’s recent decision to halt criminal proceedings against 30 Indian army personnel involved in the December 4, 2021, Oting massacre.
In a press release, the NMA asked the governor also to ensure that the union government grants sanction to prosecute the soldiers. “We urge the state govt. of Nagaland and the member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha, who hails from this village (Oting), to raise their voices in unison for justice, which has been denied to the Oting victims and their families,” it stated.
Also, the NMA reminded about the dark powers of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
“We call upon friends from Indian civil society to stand up with us for justice for Oting massacre victims and many other such shameful acts of the Indian army in Oinam, Wuzu, killings in Mokokchung, Kohima bombings and killings, Pangsha ITC Dan killings of civilian and maiming women for life and so on where no justice has been seen till date,” it stated and called for immediate repeal of AFSPA.
