Naga lady conferred Padma Shri for Literature and Education

Eminent educationist from Nagaland, Dr. (Mrs.) P. Kilemsungla was conferred the Padma Shri by the President Pranab Mukherjee today.
Dr Kilemsungla was awarded for her achievement in Literature and Education.
She hails from the Ao community under Mokokchung district.
From North East India, four other personalities were also awarded the Padma Shri at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan Durbar’s Hall. They are Chhakchhuak Chhuanvawra from Mizoram (Literature and Education), Mukul Chandra Goswami from Assam (Social Work), Elam Endira Devi from Manipur (Art – Manipuri Dance) and Dr. Waikhom Gojen Meeitei from Manipur (Literature and Education).
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, award winning actors Vidya Balan and Paresh Rawal were among the 101 personalities conferred the Padma Shri award. Eminent Scientist R.A. Mashelkar (Science and Engineering) and B.K.S. Iyengar (Yoga) were awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award.
The Padma Bhushan award was also given to 24 personalities. Among the awardees include acclaimed actor Kamal Haasan and Prof. Lloyd I. Rudolph and Prof. Susanne H. Rudolph (Literature and Education) from USA.
The award ceremony was attended, among others, by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, his wife Gursharan Kaur, Union ministers Sushuilkumar Shinde, P Chidambaram, Sharad Pawar and Sriprakash Jaiswal, and Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath.
