Naga lad appointed coach at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Dubai

DIMAPUR — Naga tennis player, Metba K Phom, who was trained at the National Tennis Academy and represented the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and played in various tournaments across India, has been appointed as tennis coach at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy (SMTA) in Dubai.

Prior to his appointment at SMTA, Phom son of Kanglong Phom and Wanlang Phom from Longleng district, has worked as tennis coach in New Delhi since 2006. He later moved to Dubai and was coaching at a tennis academy since June 2022.

The appointment of Phom as tennis coach at SMTA was made in October this year.  

Former Indian professional tennis player, Sania Mirza Tennis Academy (SMTA), is located at five places in Dubai.

Phom sharing the news to Eastern Mirror expressed, “I’m grateful to Sania Mirza and Fahad, the tennis director at SMTA, for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to work together with the UAE Tennis Federation.”

The duration of contract will be for two years and the visa would be provided by the company, it was informed.

Phom’s journey with tennis started in the year 2006. An alumnus of Greenwood School in Dimapur, he left his studies to commit himself with tennis when the AITA, through the initiative of Nagaland Lawn Tennis Association, launched a selection campaign. He was one among five students selected to be trained at the National Tennis Academy.
