Sovima village celebrates 50 years

‘Naga issue is unique and we have to unite in order to achieve our rights and recognition’, said Member of Parliament, Neiphiu Rio during the golden jubilee celebration of Sovima village here today.
The village celebrated its 50 years of existence with Chumukedima village chairman Razouvotuo Chatsu as the chief guest. Chief hosts for the celebration were MP Neiphiu Rio and Founder Sovima village. R. Sopu Angami.
Expressing his happiness on the occasion, Chatsu said Sovima has set a significant example by being a host to people from other communities who are peacefully coexisting in the village.
Citing the village’s neighbor Chumukedima as a ‘fatherly’ figure, the chief guest said, Chümoukedima and Sovima had always maintained cordial relations while wishing the two villages to unitedly grow together.
He also wished the village prosperity and hope for the people of Nagaland.
Rio while congratulating the village on attaining the golden jubilee credited the pioneers and the sacrifices made by the villagers.
He said, the village with the help of the government can make remarkable achievement in the field of infrastructure development and that youths can take full advantage and further help the village to shine more.
He said, the villagers should aim to live as a ‘model village’ and that the issue of ‘ism’ should be done away for the welfare of the people.
Citing ‘ism’ as the main reason behind the division of people, Neiphiu Rio called upon the Nagas to live in ‘unity’ as Nagaland is a small state with less population.
Speaking on the ‘Naga political groups’, Rio said one must get over with all the existing differences and should work together for the state and appealed to the people to unite.
He said if today’s generation fails to move forward then the coming generation will not see better days.
Also speaking on the Framework Agreement made between NSCN-IM and Centre on August 3, Rio called upon the people to work together for a cause as with differences generation will not progress.
Sopu Angami who is also a recipient of Ashok Chakra said that the village was founded with much hardship and overcoming jungles and mid way lost a lot of loved ones. “Their sacrifices will always be revered in our hearts.”
Sovima village with a population of 4000 has 711 households inhabited with more than 14 communities of the State with Aos having 75 households, Lothas 98 households, Sumis 87 households and Rengmas 63 households.
Cultural presentations from various tribes marked the colorful celebration. The unveiling of the monolith and releasing of the souvenir was done by the chief guest.
