DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10

A consultative meeting was held with various Tribe Hohos based in Nagaland state under the aegis of Naga Hoho on the issue of Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) and Nagaland Total Liquor Prohibition Act, 1989, at Kohima on 10th sept.2014.
After extensive deliberations and opinions expressed by various tribal bodies on NSDZ, the meeting came to a conclusion that, the current set of Resolution passed by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 24th March 2014, needs further debate and modification. While welcoming the initiations of the Government in giving its best effort in bringing all round development to the state, the Hohos shared their reservations with certain clauses of the Resolution. The meeting resolved to air their reservations in regards to:
(a) The land and transfer of ownership which contradicts the age old customary practise of the Nagas.
(b) The Inner line Permit should in no way be relaxed on the pretext of bringing in professional workers or investors.
(c) The participants further opined that the Development zones should not be based only in foothill or plain areas, rather it should be inclusive growth of all the districts of the state and the same special development zones should take place even in hilly areas.
While deliberating on the issue of Nagaland Total Prohibition Act, 1989, expressed their views that the said Act has brought more harm than good, and a complete failure to implement the Act.
The NLTP Act has become a mockery which has brought about the existence of syndicates, gangsters, drug addicts and acknowledged the fact that the prohibition Act has unreasonably escalated the prices of liquor while the quality of liquor which is circulating in the black market is of inferior quality bringing serious health concerns.
Ascertaining both merits and demerits, the Naga Hoho unanimously resolved to urge upon the state Government to review the Act at the earliest in the interest of common Naga people.
