DC, SP of Dimapur suspended

In the aftermath of irate civilians lynching to death the Dimapur rape accused, Government of Nagaland today suspended Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Wezope Kenye, NCS and Superintendent of Police, Dimapur Meren Jamir with immediate effect.
The State Cabinet had a meeting today in the residential office of the Chief Minister under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to take stock of the situations in Dimapur following the incidents of violence on March 5 leading to the death of rape accused, Syed Farid Khan in the hands of mob, and one other civilian, along with destruction of properties, CMO sources said.
The Cabinet has decided to suspend Wezope Kenye, NCS, and he will be replaced by Kesonyu Yhome, IAS as Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, with immediate effect.
It also suspended Meren Jamir, IPS, SP, Dimapur while replacing him with Shouka Kakheto as Additional SP Dimapur to take charge of the office of SP Dimapur with immediate effect.
The government also suspended B. Chuba Phom, Senior Superintend of Jail, in charge of Dimapur Central Jail, wherein irate mob yesterday barged in to pull out the rape accused, who was subsequently lynched.The State Cabinet also resolved that the persons who had incited, instigated or encouraged the mob in the process of jail break, the taking out of the accused from judicial custody and in torturing him to death be arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the State Cabinet also resolved to appoint Veprasa Nyekha, retired District and Sessions Judge as a one-man Judicial Inquiry to inquire into the incident leading to death of Syed Farid Khan in the hands of a mob in Dimapur yesterday, along with other related incidents.
The Cabinet also directed all the Deputy Commissioners and SPs of Nagaland to urgently take steps to protect and look after the welfare of the minority communities in their districts and to prevent any untoward happening.
Further, the state cabinet also expressed regret and condole the death of Syed Farid Khan and Inito Swu, and directed that appropriate ex-gratia be paid to the families of the deceased.
Mention may be made here that Khan, the rape accused of a college girl was lynched after being dragged out of the Dimapur Central jail last evening while Swu died of a bullet injury as police resorted to firing while trying to disperse the angry mob.
Meanwhile, sources also revealed that the post-mortem of the rape accused and the protestor who were killed in Dimapur violence yesterday were conducted at NHAK morgue under heavy security deployment.
Sources said that conducting post-mortem of the yesterday’s victims were impossible in Dimapur Hospital considering the overall law and order situation and therefore the bodies were brought to Kohima and post-mortem conducted under stringent security arrangement in Naga Hospital.
Mention may be made here that during the post-mortem heavy security including riot police, besides the IRB and NAP were deployed in and around the Post-Mortem room below Naga Hospital Kohima.
