Dimapur, May 18 (EMN): In the backdrop of recent arrest of three government officials by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) on their alleged involvement in paying huge amount of money to various UG factions, Naga Hoho (NH) has urged upon the authorities to discontinue with the trial of the arrested persons but look beyond the horizon by realising the plight and rights of the people.

While pointing out that have been attempts to subjugate Naga people and its territories post the Independent era under the guise of law and order problem, the hoho joint press statement issued by its president Chuba Ozukum and the vice chairman HK Zhimomi said military generals and various prime ministers of India have realised the necessity to deal with the issues peacefully and politically towards bringing permanent solution. Stating that the people’s resistance movement has been “guerrilla warfare” in nature, it said any such struggling nation or people cannot survive without depending on the people’s contribution and cooperation. It, therefore, said the need of the hour is to focus seriously towards early political settlement so as to eradicate all forms of social problems and injustice in the society.

While acknowledging the recent activities of NIA in Nagaland as an attempt to fulfil constitutional provision and the law of the land, the hoho, at the same time, urged the different Indian agencies to look into the problems from social and political perspective.

“We strongly feel that be it government employees or businessman is providing the assistance willingly or unwillingly but under compulsion and therefore the arrested government officials should not be treated as law breakers,” the hoho statement said and appealed to the NIA to ponder with all seriousness and avoid misdemeanours while dealing with such issues.

On the arrest of the wife and relatives of Niki Sumi, the stalwart of NSCN (K) in Manipur recently by Assam Rifles merely on suspicion, the hoho said such activity was uncalled for and beyond tolerance.

In the light of the above stated circumstances, the Naga Hoho urged upon the authorities to discontinue with the trial of those arrested persons but to look beyond the horizon by realising the plight and rights of the people.
