DIMAPUR — The NSCN/GPRN group led by Yung Aung, which currently operates mostly in Myanmar, has asked the authorities there to refrain from dragging the group and the Naga people into the present Myanmar conflict “because we have been maintaining neutrality since day one of the conflict.”

In a press release issued on Saturday, the group suggested that the Myanmar authorities and “the proscribed NSCN-Angmai group” were planning to sign a ceasefire agreement “and it is rather unsurprising as they have been working hand in glove since lately”.

“The question is what points are they going to talk about as this group does not have any political agenda and does not and will never represent the aspirations of the Nagas. Whatsoever agreement may reach between the two parties will not reflect and represent the political position and aspiration of the Naga people.

“Any agreement reached shall be solely limited to the foregoing parties alone. NSCN/GPRN alone represent the sentiments of the Naga people and endorse their political aspirations,” it claimed.

The Naga group then went on to question what it alleged was the Myanmar authorities’ nexus with the group led by Angmai “as it amounts to official recognition and legitimisation of an expelled group that poses a serious threat to the stability and unity of the eastern Nagas.”

“The Myanmar authority should not utilise this group to jeopardise the political and security environment of the eastern Naga area. If Myanmar copies India’s divisive mentality to divide Nagas it will be a big mistake.

“We also advise the concerned authority to refrain from dragging the NSCN/GPRN and the Naga people into the present Myanmar conflict because we have been maintaining neutrality since day one of the conflict,” it asserted.
