The public are deeply disappointed that the matter of celebration of Naga Club’s formation has become a wounding controversy. Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) agrees with this widespread disappointment. We believe the controversy should be understood and responded to correctly to prevent needless damage to the health of our young Naga family.
The differences that have surfaced are not surprising given the context of the accelerating crises in which our struggling society’s leaders are compelled to make decisions for our progress into the future. We pay sincerest tribute to our leaders and their unyielding, often thankless, efforts to take our people forward on the roadmap we have inherited from our history. And we call upon our leaders to inspire one another and the public to meet the increasing challenges properly so that we may evolve the right way to tomorrow. Our crisis calls for nothing less.
The important reality we should recognise is this: Naga Club, NSF and all Nagas want to celebrate the centenary for the same reason, namely, to rejoice together as one people that our struggle for our sacred aspirations started with the formation of the Naga Club. What Naga Club went on to achieve in the following years is history.
WAPO therefore is happy organisations at all levels in all regions will be celebrating the centenary.
The considered conclusion of WAPO after thorough study of all available verbal and media exchange documents is that what needs to be clarified has been clarified in response to the allegations and charges levelled to individuals that have caused the unfortunate controversy. We must now create the space needed to resolve the differences by giving sufficient time for consultation.
