The concerns shown by Naga civil society organizations over the political quagmire in Nagaland is well appreciated. They have been issuing press releases in the past few days in this connection appealing the warring factions of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) to resolve their differences at the earliest.Normally, no civil society organizations would like to even appeal to political parties in any crisis when comes to such petty politics. It is never seen anywhere in India. It is only the Centre that intervenes when the wait for solution to the crisis is getting longer.
However, given the peculiar situation of Nagaland the civil society organizations feel they ought to voice against such pandemonium.
The Nagas exercise their franchise in every election with political parties of varied size and colour using the Naga political issue as the principal poll plank. The Nagas compromise their comforts and see beyond their individual interests in the time of choosing candidates and parties in every election. Such is the basic block in forming the government. So to say, Nagaland government is not a normal government. It is the mandate of a threatened community to work towards resolving their political issue. It is the government entrusted to fight for the cause of the dominated people.
It is worthwhile to note that the Monday meeting of the frontal Naga organizations under the aegis of the Naga Hoho regarding the prevailing political crisis in the state was compelled by the situation. Besides the Naga Hoho, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and the Nagaland GB Federation took part in the event and resolved to carry out some important works.
To appeal and seek the intervention of the Governor of Nagaland to resolve the present political crisis of the state at the earliest is one of the resolutions.
They also made a fervent appeal to both the groups of the NPF for reconciliation.
“The Naga people witnessing such a political scenario at this juncture is uncalled for, and any unwanted eventuality arising out of this crisis, the Naga people will make both the parties held responsible,” the Naga Hoho cautioned.
Here, the Naga organisations have moral authority to give such caution.
