THE civil societies in Nagaland and Assam while appealing the Nagas and Karbis to shun all sorts of violence prevailing between the Rengma Nagas and Karbi militants of Karbi Anglong district of Assam today felt the need that both the government of Assam and the Central government should initiate efforts to address ethnic clashes and bring permanent solution at the earliest. The Naga civil societies of Nagaland consisting of Naga Students’ Federation, Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights and Naga Council Dimapur led by apex body Naga Hoho and Ahom Royal Society of Assam was held at Bookmark conference Hall, Dimapur today.
A joint statement issued late this evening by Working President of ARS Assam, Chow Kamala Raj Konwar and NH president P Chuba Ozukum said that the meeting had a threadbare discussion over the prevailing situation in Karbi-Anglong between the Karbi Community and the Rengma Naga.
The house viewed with all sincerity that normalcy and peace must be restored in the region at the earliest since both communities have co-existed in the past as indigenous people, they said.
The meeting also appealed to both the communities to shun all sorts of violence and bloodshed between brothers once and for all and build confidence among the people.
Further, the joint meeting strongly felt that both the Assam state Government and the Central Government should initiate efforts in addressing ethnic clashes and bring permanent solution at the earliest.
