DIMAPUR — The Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE), Dimapur, hosted a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) peer team on October 17 and 18 for its first accreditation cycle.
The peer team consisted of Dr. Sugam Anand from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Uttar Pradesh as the chairperson, along with Dr. Vinod Pavarala from the University of Hyderabad as member coordinator, and Dr. Shivdas Shirsath, principal of MSP Mandals Yashwantrao Chavan College, Maharashtra, as member.
The purpose of the NAAC peer team visit was to assess the quality of an educational institution's academic, administrative and infrastructural standards. It involved evaluating various aspects like teaching, learning, research, student support, governance and institutional values to ensure that the college meets the standards for accreditation and continuous improvement, stated an update from the college.
It stated that the college principal, Fr. Dr. Paul Punii, provided an overview of the college’s history, achievements and future plans which was followed by the IQAC coordinator’s report, highlighting the institution’s quality assurance initiatives, assessment practices and ongoing development projects.
The team has evaluated curricular aspects and interacted with the head of departments. Besides, the team visited academic departments to assess teaching methodologies, student engagement and continuous internal evaluation reforms.
It stated that the team assessed the institution’s infrastructure including the library, sports facilities, solar energy, museum, facilities for persons with disability (PWD), green-house, wellness centre, computer centre and many others. They also conducted an onsite review of the facilities to verify their adequacy for supporting the academic environment.
On the second day, the team examined safety and security measures including counseling services and facilities for differently-abled individuals such as ramps and rails. They also evaluated the institution’s environmental sustainability efforts, which included alternative energy initiatives, rainwater harvesting and waste management systems.
The visit concluded with a formal exit meeting in which the final report was handed over to the principal.
