Imphal, August 10 (EMN): Myanmar citizens entering Indian territory through the Indo-Myanmar friendship bridge which is popularly known as the Moreh gate number 1 have been advised to follow the Indian road traffic rules and regulations, reports from Moreh, the border commercial town,110 km south of here said.
The step has been taken up in view of the frequent road accidents at Moreh due to the violation of the traffic rules by the Myanmar citizens particularly those who entered the Indian territory with their two wheelers,reports reaching here said. Myanmarese have the habit of driving on the right side of the road.The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kh Raghumani Singh of Tengnoupal district also written a letter to his Myanmar counterpart stationed at Tamu (Myanmar town) bordering Moreh to instruct their citizens to abide by Indian traffic rules and regulation while entering Indian Territory without fail immediately to avoid violation of traffic rules.
The Myanmarese citizens who used to drive their two wheelers towards Namphalong (Myanmar) and also Moreh town via Moreh gate number 1 for their daily business activities,have the habit of driving on the right side of the road.
Considering the new development, the SP Dr S Ibomcha of Tengnoupal district police also started to deploy five Manipur police personnel headed by an assistant sub inspector Md Samad at Moreh town from 6 am to 6pm to strictly enforce the traffic rules.
An official order has also been issued besides conducting a road traffic awareness programme at the border town on Thursday, sources added.
