AR recovers narcotics worth more than 9 cr.

Imphal, Aug. 22 (EMN): In a joint operation, troops of Assam Rifles under its Moreh Battalion and Manipur Police apprehended a citizen from Myanmar with arms and ammunition at Canan Veng, Moreh town in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Aug. 19.

An update from the PRO Assam Rifles (South) informed that, based on specific input, the AR troops along with Manipur Police launched a joint operation and apprehended the Myanmar citizen along with two 9mm Pistols, 41 live rounds, four mobile phones and one radio set.

The apprehended individual along with recovered items has been handed over to the Moreh Police station for further investigations.

The Assam Rifles under Tengnoupal Battalion is also said to have recovered 4301 grams of brown sugar in 99 soap cases worth INR 8.60 crore from a check post at Khudengthabi under Tengnoupal district along Imphal-Moreh highway on Aug. 19.

The recovered narcotics along with the peddler were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation, it added.

In another development, the troops of Assam Rifles under its Tengnoupal Battalion foiled cross border smuggling in Tengnoupal district which borders Myanmar on Aug. 20.

Based on specific input, a team of Assam Rifles was sent for patrolling near Chalwa junction and the troops spotted suspicious packages in the thick foliage of the jungle, PRO added in the release. On thorough search, contraband items worth INR 8.75 lakh were recovered from the packages. The recovered items have been handed over to Customs Preventive Force for further investigation.
