Myanmar authority begins to encroach Choro Khunou land

The Myanmarese authority in association with its army have allegedly started to occupy land belongs to Manipur’s Choro khunou village under Kamjong sub-division under Ukhrul district bordering Myanmar,sources from Ukhrul said.
Myanmarese have encroached village land under Indian territory measuring a distance of 6 km in length and half a kilometer in width located in between the boundary pillars 6(new) and 95(old), according to headman Kangpat village. Choro khunou village is about 150 km away from Ukhrul town.
A team of Myanmar led by an administrative officer accompanied by army guards came to the village and asked to stop construction of dwelling places by around 30 villagers.
The Myanmar authority allegedly claimed that the said land mentioned above belongs to them and thereby seized one saw mill and other construction materials, the headman added.
Meanwhile Kangpat village secretary JS Chithung in a statement in Ukhrul also said that the Myanmar authority has trespass the ancestral land of the village. He asserted that the land which lies between the two rivers Maklang and Namia was the landmark boundary and there was no report of any dispute.
In this regard, the Kangpat Village Authority have lodged a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul district for immediate intervention and necessary action from the Indian Government considering the grievances of the villagers settling in the border area.
They also highlighted the aggravating unwanted incidents meted out to the villagers, force eviction, confiscation of properties in the complaint petition. The villagers also reaffirmed that they will not surrender an inch of land to Myanmar.
The Border area villagers Raizan Long had also submitted their representation to The Tangkhul Eastern Association in this regard urging for a collective intervention to fight for our inherent land rights of the region.
The Raizan Long further endorsed their support for the cause.The villagers also threatened to launch various forms of agitation of the government failed to redress their grievances.
