Kohima, April 28 (EMN): De Operettas -- a Kohima based music institute located at Puro Complex, opposite of Civil Supplies -- was inaugurated on Wednesday with a vision of doing everything for the glory of God through music and arts.
Advisor of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Theja Meru, who inaugurated the institute, has assured all possible assistance towards the institute and make Nagaland a ‘capital of music and arts.’
It may be mentioned here that Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, had announced scholarships for music and arts in his budget presentation for 2021-22. Meru informed that TaFMA is in the process of selecting four students to study a three months course at KM Music Conservatory, founded by famous music maestro AR Rahman.
While appreciating ‘De Operettas’ for embarking on a new journey, he maintained that music institutions are the backbone of the music industry saying, “Without literacy in music, there is no moving forward.”
He also urged music institute owners throughout the state to train students beyond formal education of music.
“Try to adopt a holistic approach and be more sensitive to problems, issues and things around us,” he said, adding that music institutes have a huge role to play. Meru further encouraged the institutes to expand their branches across the state.
Stating that there are better earning opportunities outside Nagaland for musicians, the advisor encouraged them to consider going outside the state and earn their livelihood with their profession. He also encouraged the musicians in the state to work hard in order to gain global recognition.
Meanwhile, managing director of De Operettas Music Institute Kohima, Sürhüveyi Tetseo, thanked the parents for trusting the institute and allowing their children to take music classes. He has assured to render its best services to enable students to grow in the Lord.
Tetseo, who started learning to play guitar at the age of 11 years said, ‘if one work hard and focuses on achieving their dreams then God is there to make it happen.’ He informed that the institute intends to promote indigenous and traditional folk music to the world.
Further highlighting the aims and objectives of the institute, he said it wants to promote the highest level of human aspiration, artistic integrity and humility through the composition, authentication and performance of music and arts.
The aim was to develop analytical, creative, perceptive understanding of music as a language as well as to impart music knowledge to youngsters and help them to make music and promote their own song writing, he added.
Further, it envisaged to develop community ties through music and arts and to encourage and empower the youths in the field of music and arts. To be financially sustainable and take it up as a career and to provide opportunity and to appreciate good music of the world, Tetseo added.
