Museum and Archives of Manipur assembly observes 4th foundation day

Imphal, Oct. 18 (EMN): Museum and Archives of Manipur assembly, the first in Northeast celebrated its 4th foundation day at its Old Manipur Assembly Complex in Imphal town on Tuesday.

MAHUD & Rural Development & Panchayati Raj minister Y Khemchand Singh, Former Speaker and sitting MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar of Manipur Legislative Assembly, MLA Kh Ibomcha of Lamlai constituency and Secretary K Meghajit Singh of Manipur Legislative Assembly were present during the foundation day function.

Speaking on the occasion, Y Khemchand Singh said that the inspiration for establishment of the Museum and Archives was first acknowledged when he went to visit the museum of Parliament in 2018.

Singh who took the initiative in building the museum and archives when he was the assembly speaker applauded the entire staff and appealed to continue to extend support in such initiatives.

He further said that the foundation day celebration is a significant day as it is celebrated on the day in which the first Assembly Session of the state was held for the first time in south East Asia.

MLA Lokeshwar highlighted the efforts taken up in conserving the Old Assembly Complex and noted the need to have a separate budget for the museum.

 In his presidential speech, K Meghajit Singh expressed his desire to organise next year’s foundation day in a grand way for a few days as this Museum & Archives is going to be one stop destination for the political journey of the state. He said construction of an assembly guest house at Moreh town is the need of the hour.

The assembly officials and museum staff were also present during the foundation day function wherein a souvenir, a booklet on compendium on bulletin part 1 and a booklet containing the list of elected/nominated members of Manipur assembly from pre-merger to 12th Manipur assembly (1948-2022) were released.
