Mungmung festival celebration in Kiphire concludes

KIPHIRE — The two-day Mungmung festival and Mini Hornbill event concluded in Kiphire on Wednesday, with thousands of people gathering to celebrate and witness the cultural traditions of the Sangtam Nagas.

On the concluding day of the festival, Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire Temsuwati Longkumer emphasised that Mungmung is a celebration of peace, unity, and love. He encouraged everyone to honour the traditions passed down by their ancestors to ensure they continue for future generations.

He also highlighted the importance of giving thanks to God for the harvest during this time.

“As Christians, we should look forward to a better future, not only for our own people but also for our neighbours and brothers,” said Longkumer. He noted that Mungmung is a reminder for everyone to live in harmony and unity, helping each other move forward together.

The Tikhir Tribal Council and Yimkuing Tribal Council expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Sangtam community for their warm hospitality. They also congratulated the organisers, United Sangtam Likhüm Pumji (USLP) and its sub-units, for their hard work and dedication in making Mungmung 2024 a grand success.

The event featured speeches by various dignitaries representing different organisations and institutions, as well as cultural performances.
