[dropcap]A[/dropcap]n unidentified businessman from Mumbai is said to have volunteered to construct 400 toilets in Nagaland as part of the state governor’s initiative to undertaken the sanitation program Swachh Bharat Mission across the state.
Under the initiative of the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, the sanitation program Swachh Bharat Mission will be launched in all the districts of Nagaland through the various ambassadors nominated by the governor of Nagaland.
The governor convened a meeting at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima town on Tuesday, April 14 with 9 Naga persons who have been nominated as ambassadors for the sanitation program.The governor advised the members to form a committee and to identify land for construction of 40 toilets in all the districts.
It was informed that a businessman from Mumbai has volunteered to construct 400 toilets in the state, through the personal initiative of the governor. A DIPR report containing the information was received on Tuesday. The businessman was not identified.
The ambassadors for various districts are Abei-u Meru (Kohima and Peren), Alobo Naga (Kiphire) Longtam Phom (Longleng), Vizapol Chaya (Phek), Supongmeren Jamir (Mokokchung and Mon), Geoffrey Yaden (Dimapur), Hokugha Chishi (Zunheboto), T. Khongo (Tuensang) and Methaneilie (Wokha).
“Governor emphasized on motivating people towards the life of cleanliness and reminded that service to man is service to God’, which he said would be the theme of the mission. He encouraged the Swachh Bharat team to be brand ambassador in making Nagaland the best and healthy state,” the DIPR report stated.
Commissioner & Secretary to Governor, Sanjay Kumar said that PB Acharya was one amongst the 9 members picked up by the Prime Minister of India to lead the effort of cleanliness in the country, who would be empowering 9 more members from the states ‘for effective network in carrying out the mission.’
Sanjay Kumar highlighted the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission: elimination of open defecation, eradication of manual scavenging, modern and scientific municipal solid waste management, affecting behavioral change regarding healthy sanitation practices, general awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health, and capacity augmentation for ULB’s to create an enabling environment for private sector participation, among others.
