Multispecialty cancer hospital inaugurated in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27: Offering a ray of hope for a new life, Eden Medical Centre - a 100 bedded multispecialty hospital with special focus on cancer treatment set up to provide world class medical care to the people of Nagaland and beyond - was inaugurated on August 27 in Dimapur by P Longon, Minister of Health and Family Welfare. Nagaland ranked one amongst the highest cancer prevalent states globally due to lack of awareness and lifestyle that contributes to various cancers, P Longon said in his address at the inaugural programme. While acknowledging that the State faces lots of problems, while tackling the health issues as demanded by the people, he said the State government has set priority lists to provide better healthcare facility to the population which will be pursued with the Government of India and try every possible way to make it available at their doorstep. He said, this in turn will contribute revenue to the State exchequer whilst providing healthcare. With the opening of the Eden Medical Centre in Dimapur, which is a landmark occasion for the State, the legislator expressed optimism that the Centre will render exemplary healthcare services. Dr. (Prof.) GK Rath, Chief of BR Ambedkar Institute-Rotary Cancer Hospital, AIIMS, New Delhi, remarked that Northeast region has the highest record of cancer adding 40% of cancer is related to tobacco. He said the country is facing non communicable diseases more than communicable diseases unlike the past. He said the communicable diseases, which are fatal have been controlled by medical attention. “Cancer is the top three causes of death in the country with nearly 40 lakh cancer cases diagnosed every year. However, 80% of this disease is curable if attended early with 60% of cancer preventable and 70% detectable,” informed Dr. (Prof.) GK Rath. In the years 2009-2016, 3000 cases of cancer were reported in Nagaland itself and 600 cases every year informed, Dr. Lima Imchen, Director and Consultant from the Department of Radiation Oncology. With the opening of this multispeciality hospital in Dimapur, patients can cut down the cost of treatment especially for cancer available at their doorstep, accentuated Dr. Lima Imchen in his welcome address. Sensing the urgent need of the people, Yashitsungba Ao, the force behind the establishment of Eden Medical Centre, decided to do something to alleviate the plight of his people and came up with the Eden Medical Centre. With this multispeciality hospital, Ao also the chairman saw the fulfillment of his long cherished dream to provide the best of healthcare to the doorstep of the people of Nagaland. At the landmark occasion, legislator Longon released the hospital magazine and Dr. (Prof.) GK Rath launched the official hospital website.
