Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): Nagaland Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have condoled the demise of former ministers, government of Nagaland, Lhiweshelo Mero and Kihoto Hollohon who passed away this week just a day apart.
Expressing sadness over the demise of Mero, who passed away on October 13, at Kohima, Mukhi wrote that the state has lost a tall, prominent and visionary leader, who worked untiringly and selflessly for building a peaceful and prosperous Nagaland
He added that his contribution to the people of the state would be remembered forever.
“I on behalf of the people of Nagaland and my own behalf, convey our heartfelt condolences. I pray to God to bestow the needed fortitude to the family members of Shri Lhiweshelo Mero to bear this tragic loss and grant them solace at this hour of enormous pain. I also pray to God that his soul rest in eternal peace,” read the condolence message.
Rio mourned the death of Mero, who he described as a tall leader; a jovial and humble gentleman with a big heart.
He stated that the former legislator started serving the society from a young age as the president of Naga Students’ Union Darjeeling, Vice President of Chakhesang Students’ Union Kohima and was elected as a member of Regional Council, Pfutsero before joining politics in 1977.
“The Chakhesang community in particular and the Naga society as a whole have lost a visionary leader, a mentor and a father figure. The vacuum created by his demise will be difficult to fill. However, let us celebrate his life and treasure the wonderful memories he has imprinted in us,” read the condolence message addressed.
“In this hour of grief, my family joins me in conveying our deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. It is our humble prayer that Almighty God will give them comfort and strength to bear the irreparable loss. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.
‘Kihoto Hollohon will be remembered’
Expressing sadness over the demise of Kihoto Hollohon, 89, who passed away on Friday at Olive Hospital in Dimapur, Mukhi wrote that the former minister would be remembered for his relentless and selfless services towards the people of the state.
He described the deceased as a warm-hearted and cheerful human being
“I on behalf of the people of Nagaland and on my own behalf, convey our heartfelt condolences. I also pray to God to bestow the needed solace and fortitude to the family members to bear the loss at this hour of pain. May his soul rest in eternal peace!” he wrote.
Rio also mourned the demise of Hollohon, who resigned from the post of an Inspector in the Nagaland Police to join politics, represented three assembly constituencies — Aghunato – 34 A/C, Dimapur – III A/C and Ghaspani – II A/C — in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and won all the three attempts.
“After his retirement from politics, he engaged himself in various church activities and made positive contributions. He was a bold, selfless and a strong leader, who had a big heart. I have known him for decades and we worked together as colleagues in different governments. His contributions in the service of the people will always be remembered.
“The Simi community and the Naga society as a whole have lost a senior and a valuable father figure. Even as we bid farewell, let us cherish and celebrate his life and treasure the wonderful memories he has left in our hearts,” read CM’s condolence message.
