DIMAPUR, January 18

NSCN (IM)’s Ato Kiloser, Th. Muivah in a letter to the Sumis described the Mukalmimi stand off in Zunheboto as a “treacherous situation that crossed the threshold of your homeland recently.”He also stated he was wrting to express his gratitude especially to the Sumi Aphuyemi Kukami Hoho (SAKH).SAKH is the apex organisation of Sumi Aphuyemi representing the Pughoboto area in Zunheboto district. It had last week pledged support to the ongoing Naga peace talks. This after the Sumi Hoho announced severing ties with the IM in a public at Zunheboto on January 7 last.
In his letter Muivah referred to the evacuation of the NSCN(IM)’s designated camp at Mukalimi as a site that had been mutually agreed upon with the Government of India (GoI) under the aegis of the ongoing cease-fire.
Muivah said that “political understanding and vision is indispensable to a nation’s survival. History will remember and respect the courage you (SAKH) have displayed in standing single-handedly for the cause of our nation…History will remember with honour the act of valour taken by you at the right time and saved the present and future glory of our people.”
In his message, a copy of which reached here, Muivah has stated that the decision taken by the SAKH is “most precious to our history” because the premier Sumi tribal Hoho had stood its ground on “national principle” in spite of the grim situation which he said was created by a few persons with vested interests and which had “unwittingly become the joy of our adversaries.”
The Ato Kilonser also said “I can humbly claim that I know the Sumis well. They are one of the talented and gifted tribe amongst the Nagas. It is known to all that the Sumis from the Pughoboto area and others have stood fearlessly in dire circumstances and steered clear from the anti-Naga people’s aspiration, including the 1975 Shillong Accord and the formation of the so-called ‘Unification’ faction that was a serious breach to the national interest. The letter stated ”deepest appreciation to SAKH and all other conscientious Sumi brothers and sisters for the bold and courageous stand shown for the cause of the people”.
