Dimapur, Dec. 2: Minister of PWD (NH), Mechanical and Elections, Nuklutoshi Longkumer has drawn the ire of a youth organization of Mokokchung town over his reported statement of, among others, calling the youth forum an “unrecognised NGO” that was “becoming more powerful and dominating in the society by closing down offices, organise rallies.”

The youth forum – Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) – on Friday issued a statement seeking clarification on four points from the minister. “Did the MTLT close offices, organise rallies with ulterior motives or with consent and support from the public facing various grievances?
“How does the government distinguish/define a recognised organisation from an unrecognised organisation? The MTLT will be pleased to know the list of recognised and unrecognised NGOs in Nagaland at this juncture.

“Mention instances as and when the MTLT has functioned more powerful than the Naga Hoho. Besides, in which occasion/s did the MTLT disrupt public order in Mokokchung?

“State your justification on which ground/s the MTLT must be de-recognised,” the MTLT demanded. It stated that the forum was an organisation formed of common interests for various communities in Mokokchung town. “In no way does the MTLT harbour ill motives towards any given individual/group. The MTLT regrets that its high hopes on such a prominent leader would be dealt with such an immature blow,” it added.

It could be noted that the minister had made the remarks at the recent NPF CEC meeting at Kohima.
