Dimapur, Sep. 26 (EMN): The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) and the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), after taking into the various grievances of the public and also for the welfare and development of Mokokchung district, have taken up some pertinent issues in the public interest.
A press release from president MTLT Imkummeren Jamir and AKM Imkongwati, stated that after weeks of discussions, the MTLT and the AKM officials decided to take up the issue of the pathetic road condition in Mokokchung town, non-operation of Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT), Khensa, non-release of funds to the PMEGP beneficiaries (2014-15) in Mokokchung and also the condition of the IMDH (Civil Hospital).
Likewise, they said the MTLT and AKM met with the concerned officials and shared their concerns and ideas with the head of departments and submitted joint letters for the concerned authority to take immediate actions.
The MTLT and AKM, in public interest, are taking up the following issues with hope that the concerned would take initiative with earnestness:
Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital: The two unions stated that the IMDH is the first referral point for the patients not only from Mokokchung district but also for the sister districts and as such, the hospital should be manned, administered and maintained properly. However, they pointed out that of late, there were lots of grievances from different quarters about the IMDH.
The MTLT and AKM also added that they understand that the doctors and nurses are doing their best; but there are rooms for improvement.
The release also mentioned that the two organisations met with the IMDH authorities and shared their concerns and aspirations for the only government hospital in the district.
“There is a lack of manpower – doctors and technicians in the hospital, and the state government should seriously look into this matter at the earliest,” the MTLT and AKM asserted.
Circular road in Mokokchung town: “The MTLT and AKM are aware that the improvement of circular roads in Mokokchung town was handed over to the Urban Development Department by the PWD (R&B) in the year 2014. However, the road condition in Mokokchung is for everyone to see. The road condition in Mokokchung town is in a pathetic condition,” the press release stated.
In this regard, the MTLT and AKM said they have submitted a letter to the District Urban Development Officer, Mokokchung and demanded that roads should be repaired as per the specification of the department and that it should not release the ‘completion certificate’ till the roads are repaired.
Inter-state Bus Terminus, Khensa: The MTLT and AKM also pointed out that the Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Khensa is still not operational in the district. It also added that despite the order issued by DC to the private buses and NST to operate from ISBT, Khensa, it is not operating. Therefore, two unions demanded the DC to make the ISBT functional at the earliest.
PMEG: The MTLT and AKM also said many educated unemployed youths aspiring entrepreneurs in Mokokchung have applied for the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). However, they pointed out that till date many beneficiaries have not received the funds under the flagship progamme of the Central Government. In this regard, the MTLT and AKM demanded the DC to intervene into the matter and direct the respective banks to dispense the funds at the earliest.
Further, the MTLT and AKM asserted that these issues will be pursued till the end and also requested the concerned authority and state government to take the issues with sincerity and materialize it at the earliest, in the interest of all.
