Mt. Sinai HSS enter Pool A final
1st Kohima District Inter-School Football tournament
Kohima, July 5 (EMN): Mount Sinai Higher Secondary School (HSS) defeated Bethel HSS School 3-1 in the 1st quarter-final match and reached Pool A final of the ongoing 1st Kohima District Inter-School Football tournament at Kohima local ground on Wednesday.
The tournament is being jointly organised by Royal Club Kohima and School Education department.
In a nervy encounter between Mt. Sinai and Bethel, Mt. Sinai took an early lead through Toshi in the 11th minute. The determined Bethel side fought back and equalised in the 33rd minute. After awarding a penalty, Yhonzelo neatly converted the penalty to end the first half with 1-1.
In the second half, Mt Sinai came back stronger, with their consistent play and counter attacks, the team breached the rival defense in the 59th minute through Shovelo to score another goal. The goalie was at fault as he was unable to clear the ball.
Bethel looking for an equaliser ended their hope when Benlo scored another goal in the 79th minute sealing the match 3-1 for Mt. Sinai. Earlier, in the first round Bethel Higher Secondary School beat St. Peter School 4-1 and also thrashed Charity School 7-0 in the second round, but Mt. Sinai HSS team managed to stop the goal slaughter in the quarterfinals and resulted in a victory. While Mount Sinai on the way to semis, they defeated North Field 2-0 in the second round of the tournament.
Goals from Toshi, Shovelo, Benlo for Mt. Sinai HSS made sure they secured a semifinal berth at the tournament.
The top four teams entering the finals of Pool A and B will fight for the top two spot in the semifinal berth where the winner of Pool A will compete with the loser of pool B and the loser of pool A will compete with the winner of Pool B.
