DIMAPUR — The Minority Students’ Union, Dimapur Government College (MSUDGC), organised its 4th freshers’ meet-cum-felicitation programme on February 25 at the Dimapur Government College auditorium with Arvind Damani, a national executive member of the BJP Yuva Morcha, attending as the chief guest.

Bishnu Bhattacharjee, chairman of the Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland and president of the Minority Wing NPF Central, attended as the special guest, while professor Makhan Chetia, retired vice principal of Dimapur Government College, attended the programme as the guest of honour, according to a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Damani encouraged students to enjoy the transition from high school to college by making friends from various communities who studied at different schools in different environments, which can be both exciting and overwhelming.

Appreciating the president and office bearers of MSUDGC, Bhattacharjee said minority students from different communities should come forward with a better understanding and unite to participate and contribute to state and nation-building.

He stated that Dimapur is blessed with a unique history of cultural diversity, peace, and harmony, with almost all communities and tribes living together as a family, and that the district can be referred to as a mini-India. Bhattacharjee also emphasised equality and opportunities in the education sector, with no bias or discrimination against children and students in the provision of government services.

Chetia motivated students to gather knowledge, emphasising that it would strengthen not only their own futures but also those of their families. He encouraged them to achieve their targets through education by demonstrating hard work, perseverance, and dedication.

During the event, Susmita Banik was declared Miss Freshers and Abhishek Ahmed as Mr. Freshers of MSUDGC. The programme culminated with a colourful cultural performance and dance presented by students.

Earlier, Sourav Debnath, president of the Minority Students’ Union, delivered the welcome speech.

The event was attended by Rajat Ghosh, general secretary of the Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union, who attended as a special invitee.

Additionally, representatives from various organisations such as the Student Council DGC, NCC (DGC), Gorkha Students’ Union, Sumi Students’ Union, Lotha Students’ Union, Ao Students’ Union, Tenyemi Students’ Union, Eastern Students’ Union, and Evangelical Kuki Students’ Union of Dimapur Government College were present.
