MSCST publishes book on ST Act, rules and procedure

Imphal, Aug. 31 (EMN): A book titled “Manipur State Commission for the Schedule Tribes Act and Rules of Procedure,” published by the Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) was released during a function in Imphal on Saturday.
The book was released by Tribal Affairs (TA) and Hills Minister N Kayisii at his official chamber at the New Secretariat here on Saturday.

The book was divided into two parts — the first part contains MSCST Act, 2014 (Manipur Act No. 5 of 2014) and the second part on rules and procedure of MSCST.

The department is making an effort to make available the book into electronic version through the Commission’s website as well.

Speaking at the book release programme, Kayisii said that the book will facilitate in safeguarding and promoting the interest of the ST of the state.

Maintaining that MSCST is the right platform for addressing deprivations and safeguards of the ST community of the state, the minister applauded the MSCST for bringing out the long due publication which would be of immense help the citizens.

Encouraging MSCST members to dedicate themselves towards the larger interest of the tribal populace, he requested the existing incumbents of MSCST to continue with their position during the interim period till a fresh commission has been constituted.

MSCST member Dr. Simpson Soreo said the book will empower the ST community on the constitutional rights and several other provisions incorporated in the constitution for safeguarding and promoting their interest to enable them in joining national mainstream.
