Imphal, July 21 (EMN): All Indian Congress Committee (I) in-charge of Manipur Bhakta Charan Das arrived in Imphal on Wednesday to take stock of the situation arising out of the report of resignation of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Govindas Konthoujam from his post.

Soon after his arrival at the Bir Tikendrajit International airport at around 9.30 in the morning, he was speaking to a group of reporters in presence of MPCC vice president and MLA K Meghachandra and ex-MLA Dr. Kh Ratankumar led congress functionaries.

The AICC leader said that he came here to reorganise and strengthen the party for the upcoming assembly elections. Manipur goes to polls in 2022 along with some states.

On the latest development within the party, he said that the high command was very serious about such kinds of issues in the country and in any state. He continued that the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) post was a responsible post.

Later, the AICC leader had a meeting with former chief minister and opposition leader O Ibobi Singh at a hotel. What has been discussed during the meeting was not immediately known. Meanwhile after meeting the visiting AICC leader, MPCC Vice president K Meghachandra who is also a sitting congress MLA of Wangkhem constituency in Thoubal district, told the media that ‘all the problems will be sorted out within two or three days’.

Responding to a question on the resignation of the MPCC president Govindas, he said, “We cannot say anything as there is no clear picture from him. As far as we know, he has given a letter of resignation to our AICC President Madam Sonia Gandhiji.” The MPCC President Govindas, a former minister and six times elected Congress MLA from Bishnupur assembly constituency couldn’t be contacted for his comment till the filing of the report. He was appointed as president of MPCC in December last year.
