[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the 129th foundation day of the Indian National Congress at Congress Bhavan in Imphal today. Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is President of MPCC were the chief guest and functional president of the observation. Most of the cabinet ministers and party MLAs and other district and block level congress functionaries both male and females also attended the day’s observation.
Speaking on the occasion state Chief Minister Ibobi Singh called upon the congress party functionaries who attended the day’s observation to prepare for the upcoming assembly polls in 2017.Reacting to the report of frequent accusation over the 60 years congress rule in the country, Ibobi said I think the congress rule has made what India is today and it even become a superpower nation with the party’s nation building activities. So the question of accusing congress does not arise, he claimed.
Even though there is a different party at the centre, there is no report of neglecting the state governments. The present prime minister was also a state chief minister while there was UPA(United Progress Alliance) government at centre, he felt.
The campaign to win the polls is somehow easy, Ibobi added without naming any specific political party. But it is not easy to translate whatever promises made during the campaign into action, he felt.
On the other hand MPCC chief Gaikhangam has expressed that MPCC could be a springboard for regaining power in upcoming polls.
For this the party workers and leaders in the state need to work hard in strengthening the party in view of the upcoming polls, he said. Gaikhangam who also holds the home portfolio in the Ibobi ministry also stated that the congress party is not only a national political party but a movement of the people.
Claiming that the party in power at centre is not a political party but a party for few individuals he admitted that congress is a deep rooted party unlike others in country.
Commenting on the activities of a veteran politician for allegedly finishing carreers of many political parties in the state, MPCC chief said the individual’s attempt to overcome congress party has been failed.
