DIMAPUR — As part of the Joint Colony Councils' initiative and as responsible citizens, the Middle Point Council (MPC) and youths have been checking for illegal garbage dumping on the roadside from the Clock Tower to Holy Cross police point for the past two weeks.

In a press release, it was stated that recent incidents of improper waste disposal by irresponsible individuals and business establishments have raised concern among the council and the youth.

"Recognising the urgency of addressing this issue, the Middle Point Council has implemented a series of measures aimed at raising awareness and enforcing strict penalties against those found guilty of illegal garbage disposal, according to the directions given by the DMC," it said.

The chairman of MPC, D Jonah Achumi, stated in the release that it is everyone's collective responsibility to keep the environment free of litter and pollution. It urged business establishments and residents to cooperate wholeheartedly with the council's efforts and report any incidents of illegal garbage disposal promptly.

The council has asked some businesses to place surveillance cameras in strategic locations around the area to monitor illegal waste dumping, adding that by working together, the community can create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable living environment for everyone.
