MP Udit Raj to visit Manipur; orgs. ready list of demands
Kakching, Feb. 4 (EMN): The national chairman of the All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations will be visiting Manipur to address a public gathering and a seminar in Kakching of Manipur on Feb. 24.
Dr. Udit Raj is also a Member of Parliament from Delhi north west constituency. After taking voluntary retirement from the Indian Revenue Service, Raj has been fighting for the past 20 years for the welfare of Secheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe communities, a press release from the All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations (Manipur) stated on Sun.
“We, the organizers would like to appeal to all community leaders, village heads, student bodies, church leaders, clubs to kindly support the upcoming gathering and awareness program with a large number of participants so that Dr. Udit Raj will able to bring the following demands to the Government of India,” the press release stated. The demands are that the parliament enact the Reservation Bill; provide for reservation in private companies; provide for reservation for promotion of SC/ST; hike scholarship; fill up backlog of SC / ST quotas; provide for reservation in higher judiciary; and make single caste certificate in one state valid in other states.
“The organizers will also submit a memorandum to the prime minister through Dr. Udit Raj on the issues and concerns of welfare and any infrastructure needs faced by the SC / ST communities in the state,” the press relese stated.
The press release informed that the organisers of the event are the All India Confederation of SC / ST Organizations (Manipur); All India Christian Council (Manipur); Consumers Welfare Union; Centre for Women and Girls (Tengnoupal); Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association; Kakching Library & Information Centre; representatives of Lois (Kakching); Resource Centre for Social Welfare & Community Development (Chandel); Sahitya Seva Samiti of Manipur (Kakching); Senior Citizens Forum (Kakching); Women of Manipur Empowerment Network (Imphal west).
