MP from Nagaland to take stock of food grains supply in NE India

Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): The member of parliament, Rajya Sabha, KG Kenye, on Monday conducted a meeting with officials in Kohima to take stock of food grains and other essential commodities position in the district.

Kenye, who is also a member of the National Standing Committee, met with Deputy Commissioner Kohima Gregory Thejawelie, Sr. SP Kohima, CMO Kohima, administrator of Kohima Municipal Corporation (KMC), ADS Kohima and Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in DC’s Office Chamber Kohima on May 4, according to an update from DIPR.

The MP from Nagaland informed the gathering that “the National Standing Committee is taking stock of food grains and essential commodities position across the country” and that he has been appointed as a member for the whole of north-eastern states. He added that he would visit all the districts of the state, starting with Kohima (on Monday), before touring other NE states and oversee the availability of food items.

‘Kenye lauded the district administration, medical professionals, police, KMC, KCCI and all other frontline workers who have been executing their duties by risking their lives at this juncture and encouraged them to be more cautious and responsible in their line of duties and be safe,’ the update stated.

He asked KCCI to extend more co-ordination at the ground level and co-operate with the district administration as it represents the public and has got active role to play, stating that they play a vital role in ensuring that everyone gets their share of essential commodities. “Let us take full advantage of this lockdown in recasting the network and setting everything in order,” he said while requesting the district to streamline the demand of the consumers to delivery.

He further asked ADS to update the demand at the grassroots level and also give monthly report on the stock position to the district administration.

According to the update, the district administration, KMC, ADS and KCCI gave report on relief activities and arrangement of food grains and other essential commodities being carried out during the lockdown period in the district.

Kohima DC said the district faced many challenges on daily basis during the lockdown and that it “has been learning and upgrading at certain satisfactory level of preparedness with co-ordination of all concerned departments, civil societies, villages, wards and other organisations in the district”. He also thanked the MP for his concern and guidance and assured to work on the points raised by him.
