The NPF Legislature Party has clarified that the current move for the change of leadership pertains to only among the members of the DAN coalition and is not in anyway a move to topple the government nor is it a case of defection, split or changing the party. In a release today, spokesman, NPF Legislature Party, Imkong L Imchen, said the clarification has been issued as there seems to be some confusion among the people in regard to the current political situation in the State.
Explaining that the DAN coalition comprising NPF, BJP and JDU is made of a total of 43 members in the House of 60, the release said in the present scenario, the change in the leadership is to be amongst these 43 members and the person who enjoys the confidence of the majority of these members will automatically be the leader of the DAN Legislature Party. Even within the NPF Legislature Party, out of 38 NPF MLAs, G. Kaito Aye enjoys the support of 22 MLAs making his claim constitutionally legitimate, it noted.
Maintaining that presently, G Kaito Aye enjoys the support of 26 legislators out of the 43 members of the DAN coalition – 22 NPF and 4 BJP, the release said on the other hand TR Zeliang has the support of only 16 members – 15 NPF and 1 JD(U). The 43rd member of the DAN coalition is the Speaker of the House who belongs to the NPF and by virtue of the post he occupies a neutral party, it added.
The NPF Legislature Party also pointed out that the NPF, BJP and JD(U) are political parties which are pre-poll partners of the DAN alliance and the NCP is not a pre-poll partner of the coalition.
Further, it stated that it is heartening to know that the national leadership of BJP in Delhi has invited the leader of the NPF Legislature Party G Kaito Aye to Delhi to discuss the formation of a new arrangement in the State under his leadership. He has left for Delhi accompanied by the two MPs from Nagaland today, the release added.
