Mount Olive College Kohima held its 33rd freshers’ social-cum-graduation day, celebrating new students and graduates with awards, cultural events, and inspiring speeches.

DIMAPUR — Mount Olive College, Kohima (MOCK), held its 33rd freshers’ social-cum-graduation day on August 2, marking the beginning for the newly enrolled students and the culmination of the academic journey of the graduating class of 2025.
According to an update, the guest of honour, Prof. Jano S Liegise, Dean, School of Humanities and Education, Nagaland University (NU), Kohima Campus, speaking on the occasion, in her keynote address, reflected on Naga history from the pre-colonial era to the present day.
She urged the graduates to remain passionate and persistent in their pursuits. To the freshers, she reminded them that a good beginning is half the work done and encouraged them to make the most of their first semester.
She emphasised the importance of seeking joy and fulfilment rather than material success and called on educators and parents to support students in facing failures with resilience. She also extended her congratulations to the church, the college, and all the students for organising a successful event.
In his congratulatory note to the freshers and graduates, K Shiwoto Wotsa, former DIG, Vigilance Commission, Nagaland, and chairman and managing director of the governing body, Mount Olive College, expressed his gratitude to God for the institution’s academic success and the new enrolments.
He informed the gathering about the add-on courses in information technology (IT) offered in partnership with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and the Diploma in Sütsa under the Sümi Literature Board.

Wotsa acknowledged the sponsoring church, Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima, for its support and prayers while also highlighting its upcoming centenary jubilee in 2025.
He further expressed his appreciation for the combined efforts of the teachers, supporting staff, students, parents, and the college governing body.
The graduation certificates were presented to the 48 graduates by the guest of honour.
The Mount Olive Student of the Year 2025 award was presented to Monglon H. The award, which included a certificate of recognition and a cash prize, was given to the recipient by its sponsor, Lovitoli Zhimomi, vice principal.
Chairman Wotsa handed awards and certificates to achievers, namely Mary Kasho, NU rank 2 in History (CGPA 8.70) and Mount Olive College batch topper, 2025; Tsule C, NU rank 4 in Education (CGPA 8.68); 13 distinction holders in various subjects; the departments of History and Education for producing rank 2 and rank 4, respectively; and the Department of Education for securing a 100% pass result.
Certificates for exemplary participation in co-curricular activities were awarded to the best NCC cadet, Tseituonuo Seyie; best NSS volunteer, Amugha Shohe; best EU member, Rechel Lemla H Chang; best RRC member, Bovitoli Futhena; best YRC member, Lesoi E; and best student council member, Azuile Chuilo. Diploma certificates in IT were also presented to students who passed the national-level exams.
The highlight of the programme was the contest for Miss and Mr. Olivian, 2025, in which 24 contestants competed for the titles. The judges for the contest were Nielakuonuo Thenuo, Assistant Professor of English; alumnus Benison, advocate; and Kheboli, lecturer at Sütsa Academy, MOCK.
The 2024 title holders, Shoniu Shiu and Puloto Achumi, crowned Ligha and Hamo P as Miss and Mr. Olivian Fresher 2025, respectively.
