KOHIMA — The Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) and Entertainment Enterprise Nagaland (3E Nagaland) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch the Kohima Premier League.

This initiative aims to promote local talent and entities affiliated with the KDFA, including the Kohima District Football Referees Association (KDFRA) and the Football Licenced Coaches of Kohima District (FLCoKD).

The MoU was signed by KDFA president Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome and 3E Nagaland managing director Kethosituo Elvis Mepfuo, witnessed by officials from both KDFA and 3E at the 2K Hotel in Kohima on Thursday.

The league will be organised by the KDFA and managed by 3E Nagaland, with the KDFA and the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) collaborating to schedule the league within the NFA calendar.

Yhome described it as a historic day for Kohima’s football community. He expressed hope that the tournament would significantly promote football in the district and acknowledged 3E’s efforts to reintroduce the league system in the state capital after a long hiatus.

Mepfuo announced that the Kohima Premier League would feature 10 teams competing in a round-robin format to determine the league champion. He stated that slots would be allocated to various wards and areas within the district. These slots will be made available to bidders through an auction process.

He also mentioned that ticket sales for league stages would be distributed equally among the teams, and the competition would include awards for the league champion, league cup winner, and outstanding individual performances. Each team may include up to 25 players, with a provision to include five players from outside the district. The tournament is tentatively scheduled for May at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, he informed.
