KOHIMA, JUNE 2: The two-day Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) Open Supercross, a motor event, commenced at the Local Ground in Kohima town on Thursday. The event is under the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). This is the first ever supercross event in the state and has competitors from Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Haryana, Bengaluru, and Delhi. The qualifying rounds of the four categories: Novice, Open, Local and Expert were held on Thursday while the final rounds would be held tomorrow. The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources and Sports, Khriehu Leizietsu, flagging off the competition said “sports play an important role in nation building, social cohesion and a healthy lifestyle”. “A true athlete can only reach his limit and even go beyond those limits only if he possesses good technical skills and physical fitness,” he said, while also encouraging the bikers to display true technical expertise with sporting spirit. He acknowledged the NAC for taking important steps to promote and encourage adventure sports and for opening the doors to all the adventure and motor sports lovers from the grassroots in spite of the lack of proper infrastructure. “NAC is one of the flag bearers of adventure sports for infusing the feeling and spirit of adventure amongst the youth of the States, thereby giving birth to new era of Adventure sports in the state as well as the northeast region,” he added.
