Mother-son abduction in Manipur stage managed

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he story of kidnapping of mother and son on alleged ransom demand was allegedly turned out to be a well staged kidnapping drama in Manipur.
This came to light when police arrested the mother of the child along with another couple following a thorough investigation.
The mother of the child has been identified as Thounaojam ongbi Sunita (33) while the couple was M Saratchandra (40) and his wife Bimola (38) of Uchekon Khunou of Imphal East district, police sources said.The mother Sunita who is the wife of Hemanta of Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West district claimed that she along with and her 7-year-old son Sanamatum alias Akaba was kidnapped by unknown persons for ransom on April 25 this year.
All the accused in the said incident including a minor boy with whom the accused mother had staged a kidnapping drama were picked up by the police last afternoon from different locations, sources said.
According to the reliable sources, police swung into action to rescue the kidnapped mother and son on hearing the news about the incident.
Sources further said during the course of investigation that the matter has come to light that the kidnapping of the mother and son duo was a well staged drama by the mother Sunita herself under a conspiracy of another couple identified as Sarat from the same locality to take the ransom amount from her husband’s family members.
And from the day they kept themselves hiding in different places, the mother and son at Tera area and the co-accused couple somewhere at Irilbung area and made a demand call by the co-accused Sarat to the Sunita family members, sources added.
A team of police today picked up the co-accused couple later the mother and son were also picked up. Sources added the 3 accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West court and remanded to the police custody till May 12.
Taking the matter seriously, the locals and the students of Uchiwa High school had even staged a sit-in protest at Uchiwa Leirak Achouba demanding the safe release of mother and Son duo from the hand of kidnapper on May 3.
Transporters call blockade
Demanding repair of the road from Tamenglong to Khongsang, the Joint Forum for Transport Welfare has announced to impose indefinite blockade on Imphal-Jiribam Road from 7 pm tomorrow.
In a press communiqué, secretary of the Welfare BM Joseph said they have no option but to call blockade as the government has failed to respond to their demand. Apart from imposing blockade it will also stop functioning of the Tamenglong PWD office.
