Kohima, Nov. 18 (EMN): The Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, R Ramakrishnan on Monday pitched for healthy lifestyle, and ethical society.
He was speaking as the special guest at an event to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as well as the 2nd National Naturopathy Day, at Chedema village in Kohima district. The programme was organised National AYUSH Mission (NAM) wing of the directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS).
He reiterated that the cause of growing cancer cases in the state was mostly related to lifestyle, and urged the gathering to adopt naturopathy and simple life.
Ramakrishnan also asserted that the non-communicable diseases were ‘all relatively the outcome of lifestyles diseases’ and advised the students to keep their life active in line with the “Fit India Movement.”
He also advocated ‘abstinence and avoidance’ stating that it would protect the society from diseases and make it ‘healthy and ethical’. Ramakrishnan urged the students to be responsible, live healthy and be ambassadors of healthy living.
Also, the official informed that AYUSH hospitals at Tuensang, Dimapur, and Noklak were functional. The one at Kohima, which is on the verge of completion, will soon be functional, he added.
Earlier, the keynote address was delivered by the state nodal officer of NAM, Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John.
According to him, November 18 has been declared as Naturopathy Day by the government of India in memory of Mahatma Gandhi.
The main function was followed by “barefoot walking” from Malo-o Indoor Stadium, Chedema till Chedema Peace Camp; followed by a “sunbath”.
NSS volunteers, with programme officers from eight educational institutions, took part in the event.
Earlier a poster exhibition on ‘Mahatma Gandhi and his links with naturopathy’ was also conducted. Műrhelű Vero from Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima won the first prize.
