MOS urges SHGs to make more lakhpati didi

MOKOKCHUNG — Union Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development, Government of India, Faggan Singh Kulaste, has urged the self help groups (SHG) to make more lakhpati didi (elder sister) as envisioned by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The minister stated this while addressing the SHG of Ongpang North at Ungma Rural Assembly Hall on Thursday in the presence of members from Ungma village council and other government officials.

Kulaste informed that the government has enhanced the budget from INR 2 crore to INR 3 crore to make more lakhpati didi. He added that members associated with SHG has increased from 2.31 crore in 2014 to 10 crore at present.

While expressing concern about the marketing of the product made by the SHG, he directed the DC to interact with the tribal minister/ department and other agencies to provide the proper platform for marketing of SHG’s products.

During an interacting, Tsuktizungla, president of Ongpangkong North Block Level Federation, informed that there are 116 lakhpati didi in her village. The minister was impressed with her response and asked her to make more lakhpati didi.

The minister also visited the exhibition of SHGs and interacted with them about their products. He also assured to talk with officials at the centre for the marketing of their product.

Earlier, the union minister held review meeting with the district officials on the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office. Nagaland minister, Metsubo Jamir, and the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, were also present at the meeting.

The minister expressed satisfaction for implementing and progress of the schemes. The union minister also visited Mopongchuket.
