Mortal remains of Nagaland legislator Toshi Wungtung arrive at Dimapur Airport

: The mortal remains of Nagaland legislator, late Toshi Wungtung arrived at Dimapur Airport from New Delhi on Friday at around 2 pm.

The body of the state’s advisor for Information and Public relations, State Council of Educational Research and Training and Village Guards was received by MLAs, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, six tribe leaders, friends and family.

After a brief halt at the airport and laying of wreaths from state legislators, advisors and friends, his body was taken to his residence in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur for people to pay their last respects.

Wungtung (56) passed away on Thursday while undergoing treatment for post-Covid complications at BLK Hospital in New Delhi. He entered politics in 2018 and was elected to the 13th NLA from 58-Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency in the same year on Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) ticket.

Nagaland government has announced that a state funeral will be accorded to the late legislator at his residence in Dimapur on Saturday, July 3 at 8 am. and it will be live streamed on MyGov Nagaland YouTube and Facebook Channels.

Highlight of funeral service

NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, Minister Neiba Kronu and Opposition leader TR Zeliang will deliver eulogies at the funeral service to chaired by the principal secretary of Home Abhijit Sinha.

Representatives from Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and Kekongchim Yimchunger will also speak besides members of the deceased family- Lipokla Toshi Wuntung (wife), I Toshitsungba Aier and Dokiu Kecham.

After the state funeral, the mortal remains of the advisor will be flown from Dimapur to his hometown Shamator town by a helicopter for the last rites.
