Imphal, Nov. 7 (EMN): Manipur’s Water Resources and Youth affairs Sports Minister Letpao Haokip wants Moreh as number one tourist destination in the north eastern border state.
Moreh, the commercial town of the state bordering Myanmar is a newly created Tengnoupal district, located around 110 km south of Imphal along the Indo-Myanmar International border, is inhabited by multi-ethnic communities.
The sleepy town becomes an important tourist destination because of its location as well as the availability of many foreign goods including house hold items at affordable rates, stated the Minister.
Minister Letpao Haokip has also formally made an appeal to the residents of Moreh to show maximum cooperation to the developmental initiatives of the Government and take maximum benefits from the projects and schemes instead of opposing them.
He was speaking during a felicitation programme organised in his honour at the conference hall of Hill Tribes Council, Moreh, Tengnoupal district on Tuesday, sources said.
He said that Moreh is a home to many ethnic communities. He urged all concerned to show mutual love, respect and mutual trust among all communities living in the town so that there is healthy development in the township.
Pointing out that the state government has many things in mind for the development of Moreh like expansion of Asian Highway passing through Moreh and setting up of Logistic Park and Tourists Circuit, he said the cooperation of the locals to such developmental plans is required.
Instead of resisting developmental activities, the locals should extend cooperation to the government and derive maximum benefits from the projects and schemes.
