Nagaland’s ruling politicians’ claims of security, peace, and assurance of protection in Dimapur continues to talk back to them as law enforcement continues to nab inimical forces in the busy commercial hub of the state. The Assam Rifles have caught yet another militant of an Assam-based militant outfit, from Dimapur. The 37th Assam Rifles informed in a press release on Tuesday, September 29, that they have caught a militant belonging to an outfit calling itself the “Self Styled United People’s Liberation Front (SSUPLF).” The security force said it had conducted a successful operation, under aegis of the headquarters of 6-sector Assam Rifles and apprehended one armed UPLF cadre from 7th Mile area in Chumukedima, near Dimapur.
“The operation was launched based on information regarding presence of an armed UPLF cadre in Chumukedima since 22 Sep 15. The cadre was on the lookout for a house on rent. During the operation, which was carried out with surgical precision, the cadre was intercepted at 7th Mile,” the Assam Rifles stated.
On searching the individual, the troopers found a 7.65mm pistol with magazine, five live rounds and a mobile phone from him, the security force said.
The apprehended militant has been identified as one Daley Doulugophu, a resident of Paulbaram.
The press release stated: “During interrogation the individual admitted that he is an active cadre of UPLF and also informed that the group has now disintegrated into smaller factions. Apprehended cadre also claimed to have joined the newly formed Self Styled United People’s Liberation Front (SSUPLF) group. Some cadres of the group had shifted from Karbianglong district to Dimapur to avoid apprehension by the Assam Police.”
‘With the apprehension of this UPLF cadre, 37 Assam Rifles has dented the plans of the newly formed group to establish itself in Dimapur. Apprehended cadre along with recovered items was handed over to the Diphupar Police Station,” the security force said.
On September 16, the authorities arrested six persons belonging to the organization following reports about the presence of the militants. The UPLF is a Dimasa militant group based in Assam.
The government of Nagaland continues to slumber even as militants from the myriad extremist organizations from other northeast region state have made Dimapur a haven.
